I have already waxed (and I mean, really waxed) eloquent about the need to have a well-designed pattern in my post P for Perfect, P for Pattern, so I’m not going to belabour that point any further.

Instead, today I will unveil the pattern I have chosen for our Project Cowl. It is from one of my favourite sites (Yarnspirations) and it features one of my favourite design elements – Lace.

Before I show you pictures of the design, I want to clarify that every one of us can adapt this pattern in a way that suits our styles and our knitting abilities best. No one needs to get intimidated by anything featured in this pattern. I am here to hold your hand through the entire thing.

Go ahead, feast your eyes (on the cowl, that is)

You will notice that this cowl has been seamlessly knit in the round. Also, apart from the ribbed edges, there are different lace elements in different panels of the cowl.

The reason why I haven’t chosen a simpler pattern is that I think we should all try our hands at creating something we would love to wear. However, for anyone just starting, I will help you convert it into a simpler pattern with ribbed edges and a simple knit body. If you want to add stripes to make it more interesting, that can be easily done. This is one of those patterns, which can be adapted any way you want.

For those of you who are knitting on straight needles, no need to fear. We knit this like a straight scarf and then seam the ends when we are finished.
